Of all the metal fabrication techniques, roll forming proves to be the most effective process for manufacturing pallet racks. Roll formed shelves for pallet racks are generally fabricated in a ‘teardrop’ style. They are referred to as ‘teardrop’ racks as the holes on the column of an upright shelving rack are shaped like a teardrop. Pallets rest on horizontal load beams which in turn are held in place by mounting clips. As the clips on teardrop configurations can be easily moved, the shelves can be adjusted for different heights to accommodate various sizes of load. Roll Forming Techniques

Roll forming is a technique that takes metal sheet typically in coil form, and passes it through a series of roller dies that progressively form the metal sheet into the required shape. Pallet manufacturers for warehouse racking, shelving and other storage systems can economically produce bulk volumes of steel pallets using the roll former equipment. Several secondary operations involved in the production of metals can be effectively combined in the roll forming operation. 

Metal forming through roll former equipment is a continuous bending operation wherein a sheet of metal is plastically deformed along a linear axis. The metal sheet is passed through a series of roller dies and is progressively shaped to the required shape.
